Kenneth Santos, is an oboe performance major at the University of Rhode Island. Originally from Cranston, Rhode Island, Kenneth began playing violin, flute, and double bass in fifth grade before discovering the oboe during their junior year of high school. It was then that they found the instrument that would ultimately shape their musical path. At URI, Kenneth studies with Professor Jane Murray, whose mentorship and teaching have played a significant role in their artistic develop- ment. Kenneth credits Murray’s approach to technique and musicianship, as well as their experiences in the Rhode Island Youth Oboe Trio and Rhode Island All-State ensembles, with strengthening their commitment to a career in music.
Their first Rhode Island All-State performance proved especially influential, solidifying their desire to pursue music professionally. While classical performance remains Kenneth’s primary focus, they also enjoy jazz and indie music and value the many creative possibilities that a life in music can offer.
Looking ahead, Kenneth hopes to pursue a career in orchestral performance while continuing to explore teaching, chamber music, and other artistic opportunities.
