The Kingston Chamber Music Festival is delighted to welcome acclaimed cellist and composer Clancy Newman to its 38th Season. Praised for his versatility as both a performer and creator, Newman will be featured in Concert 1: 250 Years—A Chamber Music Journey from 1776 to Modern America, Concert 2: The British Are Coming, and Concert 3: Mozart and Britten, bringing his distinctive artistry and musical insight to audiences throughout the Festival’s opening weekend.
A recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant and First Prize winner of the prestigious Walter W. Naumburg International Competition, Newman has built an international career spanning performances across North America, Europe, Asia, Canada, and Australia. A sought-after chamber musician, he has appeared with organizations including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Chicago Chamber Musicians, and Musicians from Marlboro, while also being featured regularly on NPR’s Performance Today.
In addition to his accomplishments as a performer, Newman is widely recognized for his work as a composer. Having written his first piece at the age of seven, he has gone on to create an extensive body of work that includes solo cello pieces, chamber music, and orchestral compositions. His music has been commissioned and performed by leading artists and organizations throughout the country, further establishing his reputation as one of today’s most multifaceted musical voices.
