Meet the artists: Alexey Alexandrov and Ekaterina Skliar

May 21, 2025

Our 37th season Where Coast Meets Cadence will be held July 23-August 3 in Edwards Hall at the University of Rhode Island. Tickets are now on sale!

Alexey Alexandrov returns to KCMF for his second season to perform his arrangement of Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. He’ll play the domra alongside Ekaterina Skliar (domra), Jasmine Lin (violin), Che-Hung Chen (viola), Hai-Ye Ni (cello), Nathan Farrington (double bass), and Henry Kramer (piano) in the first concert.

“Astor Piazzolla’s music is deeply expressive, blending the soul of tango with the sophistication of classical and jazz elements,” Alexandrov says. “His compositions uniquely convey both passion and melancholy, and his improvisational approach made every performance distinct—each rendition infused with raw emotion, intensity, and rhythmic vitality.”

Alexandrov’s arrangement gives each performer the opportunity to shine and fully engage in the energy and passion of Piazzolla’s music. “The audience can look forward to a performance that is both evocative and exhilarating—full of dynamic contrasts, intricate interplay between the instruments, and a deep connection to Piazzolla’s spirit,” he says.

“Piazzolla’s music carries a deep sense of passion while also having an irresistible groove and rhythmic drive, which makes it a special experience to play,” adds Ekaterina Skliar, who will play domra for the piece as well. “The audience can look forward to a piece that both speaks to the heart and also makes you want to move.”
