The Kingston Chamber Music Festival is delighted to welcome the Terra String Quartet for its KCMF debut during the Festival’s 38th Season. Recognized as one of today’s most exciting young chamber ensembles, the quartet will be featured in Concerts 1, 2, and 3, bringing their artistry, collaborative spirit, and thoughtful musicianship to audiences throughout the opening weekend of the Festival.
Formed by violinists Harriet Langley and Amelia Dietrich, violist Chih-Ta Chen, and cellist Audrey Chen, the Terra String Quartet has quickly earned recognition for its compelling performances and dynamic approach to chamber music. The ensemble’s members bring together diverse artistic backgrounds, international performance experience, and a shared commitment to musical storytelling.
Violinist Harriet Langley, a Korean-Australian musician, has appeared as a soloist and chamber artist with ensembles including the London Chamber Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and Verbier Festival Orchestra. Fellow violinist Amelia Dietrich has performed across the United States, Europe, and Australia and is equally dedicated to education, mentoring young musicians through organizations such as the New York Youth Symphony.
Violist Chih-Ta Chen, a native of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is the recipient of the Chimei Arts Award and Borromeo String Quartet Guest Artist Award. His chamber music career has taken him to leading festivals including Music at Menlo, Kneisel Hall, Taos School of Music, and the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival. Cellist Audrey Chen has been praised for her expressive artistry and has appeared as a soloist with the Seattle Symphony and Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra while performing regularly with leading chamber ensembles throughout the United States.
Audiences will have the opportunity to experience the quartet’s artistry across three distinctive programs. Their Festival debut begins with Concert 1: 250 Years—A Chamber Music Journey from 1776 to Modern America, continues in Concert 2: The British are Coming, and concludes with Concert 3: Mozart and Britten, allowing listeners to experience the breadth of the ensemble’s musical voice across a wide range of repertoire.
Beyond their impressive individual accomplishments, what unites the members of the Terra String Quartet is a shared belief in the power of chamber music to foster communication, collaboration, and connection.
