This summer, Kenneth Santos received the 2026 Kingston Chamber Music Festival Scholarship, awarded annually to an outstanding music major at the University of Rhode Island and selected by the faculty of the URI Department of Music.
An oboe performance major from Cranston, Rhode Island, Kenneth began their musical journey playing violin, flute, and double bass before discovering the oboe during their junior year of high school. At URI, Kenneth studies with Professor Jane Murray and performs with the URI Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and a variety of student-led chamber ensembles. Experiences with the Rhode Island Youth Oboe Trio and Rhode Island All-State ensembles have also played an important role in shaping their development and commitment to pursuing a career in music.
While classical and orchestral performance remain Kenneth’s primary focus, they also have an interest in jazz and indie music and hope to continue exploring teaching, chamber music, studio recording, and other creative opportunities throughout their career.
Established in 2004, the KCMF Scholarship strengthens the Festival’s longstanding relationship with the University of Rhode Island while supporting the next generation of musicians. We were proud to recognize Kenneth during KCMF’s 38th Season this summer and look forward to seeing where their dedication, artistry, and passion for music take them next.
