Clara Chen, age 16, is a rising senior at The Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA. She currently studies piano with Marcantonio Barone at the Bryn Mawr Conservatory of Music, and previously with Amy Yang of the Curtis Institute of Music and the late Joy Kiszely at The Main Line Conservatory. Clara recently performed at Carnegie Weill Hall as part of the Dr. Andor & Joy Kiszely Memorial Recital in May. In past seasons, Clara has been awarded First Place in the Senior Piano Division of the 2024 Tri-County Youth Festival, Honorable Mention in the Senior Piano Division of the 2024 MTNA PA Performance Competition, and Second Place in the 2024 Annual Lyra Music Youth Competition. Clara is also a current Advanced Study scholarship recipient as a member of the Myer Schwartz Piano Trio at the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia. The trio won Gold in the 6th Bösendorfer Youth Music Festival’s Mixed Age Ensemble category earlier this year, and advanced to the quarterfinal round in the Junior Division of the 2026 Annual Fischoff Competition. Previously, Clara was a student at Temple Music Prep, Center for Gifted Young Musicians from 2023 to 2025, and attended Lyra Music Festival and Luzerne Music Center. Additionally, Clara enjoys singing as an alto in the Baldwin B-Flats, an auditioned a cappella group representing her school, winning competitions and performing frequently in the region and abroad. Apart from actively performing, Clara is a competitive swimmer, co-junior head of her school’s DECA Business Club and two-time DECA ICDC qualifier, and a Senior Recruitment Director and Piano Tutor for the Do Re Mi Project, a student-led nonprofit aiming to bring free online music education to youth across the globe through high school volunteers. In her free time, she loves to capture sunsets on her camera and explore all genres of music!
