Cynthia Zhang studies flute with Judy Grant and is an Honors Student at the Boston Flute Academy. She performs with the Boston Youth Symphony, the highest-level orchestra of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras (BYSO), and the only youth orchestra in the nation to present an annual full-length opera with professional singers. Their recent repertoire has included Brahms’s Symphony No. 2, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8, Stravinsky’s Song of the Nightingale, and Berlioz’s opera Les Troyens à Carthage. Cynthia was also a finalist in the 2025 BYSO Concerto Competition. Previously, she served as principal flute of the Rhode Island Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and was a finalist in its 2024 Concerto Competition. She ranked first in flute for the Rhode Island All-State Music Festival in 2024, 2025, and 2026. Cynthia has also attended the BU Tanglewood Institute and Luzerne Music Center in past summers.
